Sodastream: Eco Friendly Home Soda Maker
Months back, I was impressed by a cool eco friendly product I read about in the Wall Street Journal, the Sodastream home soda maker! It is the perfect answer to sprucing up the water you drink, as it transforms regular water into a fresh and fizzy seltzer or soda with a simple push of a button. The actual appliance is ultra sleek so looks fabulous on your countertop. However, unlike your other kitchen appliances, this one operates sans batteries, electricity and plumbing and requires no clean up. Now that’s environmentally friendly!
Here’s how it works. You fill a one liter reusable carbonating bottle with water and screw it into the machine. You then push a button and the CO2 carbonator adds carbonation (you choose how much). Once sparkling and spritzed up, you can drink it as is or spruce it up with one of the 25 flavor options.
The benefits of Sodastream soda makers are aplenty (especially if you’re currently a soda drinker):
- You help the environment by cutting back on the purchase of case after case of soda (no more cans and bottles to recycle or throw away).
- You save money, time and energy in terms of trips to the store (i.e. gas), hauling and lugging big cases of soda and storage of those cases.
- You save money vs buying the store bought brands. Sodastream seltzer starts at 17 cents per liter and soda at 42 cents per liter.
- You don’t have to dispose of flat, wasted soda. The Sodastream variety keeps well thanks to a hermetic seal in the carbonating bottle caps.
- Sodastream regular sodamix flavors have 2/3 less sugar, carbs and sodium than your typical store bought brands.
- The diet flavors are sugar-free (sweetened with Splenda), contain less sodium than your typical diet soda and are without aspartame.
- The soda can be carbonated and flavored to your liking.
Sodastream makes drinking those 8 glasses a day much more exciting and it doesn’t hurt that you save along the way. There are several soda maker options available so check out what they have to offer!!!
